Kenneth Davids of Coffee Review awarded this coffee 93 points, calling it, "an attractively complex, deeply layered, floral- and spice-toned Burundi." (Coffee Review, May 2023)

The majority of coffee from Burundi is sourced from coffee cherries picked by smallholder farmers. On average, each farmer owns less than one hectare (< 2.5 acres) of land, and delivers freshly picked cherries to centralized depulping and washing stations to be processed. It often takes several producers' deliveries to create a single lot, which is why coffees from Burundi are typically not sold as single-farm lots. Coffees are instead sold under the name of the washing stations.

This particular coffee comes to us from the Bukeye washing station, which was built in 2013 by the founders of the Long Miles Coffee Project, Ben and Kristy Carlson. They moved to Burundi in 2011 to help improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers by creating direct connections with roasters in search of consistently great coffee. This is the first time we've purchased their coffee (via our coffee importing friends at Cafe Kreyol), and we're already in love. If you're looking for a delicious coffee you can feel good about, this is the one for you!
