This coffee comes to us via our friends at Royal Coffee, originating in the lush mountain forests at the lower edge of Mt. Kenya in Kirinyaga County, one of the most revered coffee producing regions in the world.
Coffee producer Symon Mariku first planted coffee on his 3.5 hectare (8.6 acre) estate in the 1970's. Today, his 5,000 coffee trees produce about 50 exportable bags of coffee each harvest. He carefully manages the selection of only the ripest cherries from the coffee trees, along with hand sorting for consistency and ripeness once cherries are delivered to the wet mill. The coffee then undergoes two unique fermentation cycles before it is dried on raised beds for about 5-7 days, after which it is delivered in parchment to the Central Kenya Coffee Mill for storage, milling, and export.
The result is truly one of the most complex, delicate, and downright delicious coffees we have ever tasted. It sparkles with a floral, citrus acidity that flows right into a juicy, mouthwatering blackberry jam flavor.
