medium roast | sweet & complex
WE TASTE: black currant, cacao nibs, molasses
OUR FAVORITE BREWING METHODOLOGY: espresso, drip, cold brew
ORIGIN: Colombia, Ethiopia and Bali, Indonesia
COFFEE VARIETIES & MILLING PROCESS: Colombia: Caturra, Castillo & Typica, fully washed · Ethiopia: indigenous landraces & heirloom cultivars, fully washed · Bali: Bourbon, Typica (S795 & USDA 762) & Catimor, full natural, dried on raised beds
One blend, three continents, and a cup that earns its complexity. Marine Layer takes coffees from South America, Africa and Southeast Asia and finds the roast point where they stop tasting separate and become one layered cup that's hard to put down.
Washed Colombia gives the blend its structure and clean cacao depth. Washed Ethiopian heirloom coffee adds the black-currant lift. From Bali's Kintamani Highlands, a full natural lot grown by farmers of the Subak Abian cooperative on the volcanic slopes of Mount Agung and dried on raised beds brings molasses richness and a sweet, round body.
The result is a medium roast that changes with how you brew it: rich and almost savory black, beautifully rounded with milk, and an exceptional espresso where molasses body and black-currant brightness pull a naturally sweet shot. It's an award-winner on the bar, too: Marine Layer earned a Bronze Medal in the Espresso category at the 2023 Golden Bean North America championship.
